In the Kitchen
Growing up, the kitchen was the heart of our home. So many of my childhood memories involve the foods that my mom cooked for us, the smell, the stories at the table, etc. Her meals were simple, yet delicious. Not only did my siblings and I enjoy her food, the neighborhood kids did as well. Our house was always filled with family, friends and food. It was truly something special!
That is why I always say, even if I had all the money in the world, I would never hire someone else to cook for my family. I want my kids to grow up associating their happy memories at home with the wholesome and comforting foods I make for them because I believe that food is love.
Entertaining friends is also something that Mark and I love to do. Inviting someone into your home is one of the most personal ways to get to know someone. Making a nice meal for guests is something that I take great pride in.
Just like my mom's meals, mine are nothing fancy (although they may sometimes look it, ha!) But, they're homemade, healthy and delicious. I take healthy shortcuts when I can, never using any artificial ingredients and I repeat the same favorites because, that's real life!
My inspiration for these recipes comes from some of my favorite cookbooks or were passed on by family and friends, tweaking many of them along the way. By sharing them, I hope to inspire you to make one of them for your friends and family!
